Pre-Award Basics

The Region VI Education and Professional Development Committee (EPDC) is proud to announce our Pre-Award Basics webinar. We have numerous individuals entering research administration for the first time, the early-research administrator (1-3 years) and some who are coming back to the field after a hiatus. This course is designed to provide a foundation in pre-award basics for the new, early and returning research administrators. We intend for registrants to leave the webinar with a strong pre-award foundation, resources to support their work, professional development, and an introduction to a network for support in the field.
Join us July 26 for Pre-Award Basics with our speakers Heather Kubinec and Matt Michener.
Heather Kubinec has over 20 years of research administration experience with expertise in contract negotiation and clinical trial compliance. She is currently Principal Grant & Contract Officer in the Clinical Trials Administration Office at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and has previously served in central research administration offices at University of California, Irvine, USC, and The Broad Foundation. Heather is a mentor for the Region VI LeadMe Program and a member of the Region VI Education & Professional Development Committee. She has also served as Region VI Secretary, and on the Region VI Advisory Committee, Region VI Membership and Volunteer Committee, and national Nominating and Leadership Development Committee. Over the years, she has presented at various NCURA regional and national conferences on topics related to contract negotiation, clinical research, and working with foundations.
Matt Michener is currently the Associate Director for Washington State University's (WSU) Office of Research Support and Operations (ORSO). He oversees the central pre-award team responsible for WSU proposal submissions and award negotiations. Matt is an NCURA Region VI Education and Professional Development Committee member, 2021 NCURA LeadMe graduate, 2022 and 2023 NCURA LeadMe co-chair, a former Region VI Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) committee member, editor and contributor to NCURA e-Xtra, and has presented at several NCURA conferences and to other universities.
